Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return

Developing an Effective Workforce for the Aerospace Industry

The Queensland Government is committed to supporting the state’s rapidly developing and innovative aerospace industry. The Gateway to Industry Schools program for Aerospace has proven essential in meeting the Queensland Government’s aim of transitioning young people from school to work while completing school and gaining formal qualifications.

Selected Queensland secondary schools (government and non-government) engage and partner with aerospace industries, tertiary education and training providers to inspire students to consider a skilled, diverse, and sustainable career or pathway into to the exciting aerospace industry sector.

We can’t think of a better way to celebrate International Women’s Day than to witness an all female operated flight. Yes, you read that right! This morning Virgin Australia’s VA 313 flew from Melbourne to Brisbane and every every role in relation to this flight on the ground and in the air was held by a woman. 🙌🏻 It wasn’t very long ago this couldn’t have been considered. How far we have come! Brisbane Airport Corporation and Virgin Australia know the power that an event such as this will make on our young people and we are grateful that they invited 50 Aerospace Gateway to Industry Schools Program students together with young women from Aviation Australia’s FAME program, not only to witness the flight land via livestream, but to hear from the crew about their experiences. In the flight deck were two trailblazing women, FO Deborah Lawrie AM and Cpt Paley Williams who shared their inspiring stories with the room. Our students were captivated by every industry representative that, without hesitation, took the time to meet, encourage and guide them to pursue their chosen aviation career paths. As two women, each with aviation careers spanning over two decades, words can’t express just how proud we, as a Project Team, are of our industry today. Thank you Brisbane Airport Corporation and Virgin Australia for choosing our Aerospace Gateway to Industry Schools students to celebrate with you. We can’t wait to see the future take off!#IWD2024 #countherin Aviation High Balmoral State High School Indooroopilly State High SchoolMiami State High School St Mary’s College, IpswichSt Thomas More College, Sunnybank ... It’s has been an honour to be part of the Aerospace Gateway Schools program for over 10 years and working with significant aerospace industry personnel from organisations such as Boeing Defence, Qantas, Virgin Australia, GE Aviation, Airbus, QLD Government, just to name a few. The program continues to be of constant value and importance to the school and students as they transition into aerospace careers

The Aerospace Gateway to Industry Program allows GE Aviation to help shape and inspire the next generation of Aerospace workforce. This program has helped us engage local schools to find potential employees; provide both students and employees development opportunities; and promote GE Aviation’s business in both QLD and further abroad

Given the important role that aviation plays in our school, the GISP is vital.  With the support of the Project team, we work with industry to ensure that we play our part in producing necessary skills and experiences to meet the growing demands that are required by our industry partners in terms of high quality students with necessary experiences.

Airbus in Australia is proud to work with schools and students in the local community through AGISP. Providing an opportunity of connecting our industry with the passion of the next generation reminds us of our own personal journey within the aerospace industry. We are proud to be supporting this program because it also invests in our industry’s future. We have had exceptional students visit Airbus locally through school tours and work experience, and it is an honour each year to present one of these engaged students with the Airbus Aerospace Systems Award.

Balmoral State High School is proud to be an Aerospace Gateway School.  This partnership creates exciting opportunities for our students and teachers through engaging and innovative programs with direct pathways into the Aviation industry.
